Free Sunday School "Sunny Land" was opened by Olga Vinyarskaya in January,2005 (Irkutsk Region Administration grant (2004) for orphans, kids from poor and having many kids families. Secondary school education is not enough in Russia to enter the University free and gifted kids from poor families have no chance to get additional classes as their parents have no money to pay. Than's why they practically have no chance to get University education or to participate in various contests.
Irkutsk IATP Centre, Project Harmony, Inc. supported the project and computing classes were conducted in the IATP Centre of Irkutsk Region Lindrary after Moltchanov-Sibirsky.
Second War Veterans’ Committee gave us an opportunity to use their rooms free and all the classes in English, Russian. Literature and Maths, parties and contests were held there.
High-school and University students, retired teachers work as trainers. Olga Vinyarskaya prepares programs and plans of the lessons and explains volunteers what and how to do.
Kids of five Irkutsk schools are "Sunny Land" students.
American teachers Gordon and Juanita Quick were our guests and volunteer teachers for six weeks. It was absolutely fantastic!
Now the situation can be a little bit difficult as we have to pay rent for the room and the grant money was enouhj to support our project only for one school year.
We’ll be grateful for any kind of help to support kids from poor families in their education and socializing.
